International Women’s Day

A simple yet unforgettable celebration

Women like little treats. Men also like attention. Women are delighted by compliments. Men also appreciate positive comments. Women are pleased when someone notices their haircut. Men are over the moon when the remote control is free for them to watch the soccer game.

Men and women differ in many respects. Points of view, points of opinion, to the point of clashing, growing apart, considering, reflecting, returning. To the point of concluding that the point is not the issue.

As March 8 approaches, known as International Women’s Day, social networks and the media in general teem with texts, messages, short posts and long posts reminding the whole world that it is populated by men and women. As if this were not common knowledge.

Not long ago, shortly after the day designated to remember women, while reflecting on how I enjoyed my day, I recalled so many messages received, texts read, cards that had to be downloaded in order to be viewed, even though they had been sent to WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, among some of the social networks in my networking circle.

One simple episode, however, brought a bright smile to my eyes and face. Such was the joy I experienced that I relived it. March 8 for me was a typically feminine day: quickly tidying the house, rushing out to the supermarket to pick up a few specific items, returning home, where work—the daily service provided to clients—awaits me every day.

Ah, what brightened my day? Precisely the fact that it was full, complete, whole. Individual, woman, professional, homemaker, businesswoman, friend, confidante, partner… all my roles came to the surface, took a few strokes and delighted in a moment of peace, floating on their backs in this sea of activities, while enjoying delicious dulce de leche with fresh cheese. As simple as that.
